PANAMA CITY, Fla. (AP) — The devastation inflicted by Hurricane Michael came into focus Thursday with rows upon rows of houses found smashed to pieces, and rescue crews started making their method into the stricken areas in hopes of accounting for lots of of people that might have stayed behind.
At least three deaths have been blamed on Michael, probably the most powerful hurricane to hit the continental U.S. in over 50 years, and it wasn’t completed yet: Although decreased to a tropical storm, it introduced flash flooding to North Carolina and Virginia, soaking areas nonetheless recovering from Hurricane Florence.
Beneath a wonderfully clear blue sky, families dwelling along the Florida Panhandle emerged from darkened shelters and inns to a perilous landscape of shattered homes and purchasing facilities, beeping safety alarms, wailing sirens and hovering helicopters.
Gov. Rick Scott stated the Panhandle woke as much as “unimaginable destruction.”
“So many lives have been modified endlessly. So many families have lost every part,” he stated.
The complete extent of Michael’s fury was only slowly becoming clear, with a number of the hardest-hit areas troublesome to succeed in because of roads blocked by debris or water. An 80-mile (one hundred thirty-kilometer) stretch of Interstate 10, the primary east-west route along the Panhandle, was closed.

State officers stated 285 individuals in Mexico Seashore had defied a mandatory evacuation order forward of the storm.
Nationwide Guard troops made their method into the bottom-zero town and located 20 survivors Wednesday night time, and more rescue crews have been pushing into the world, with the fate of many residents unknown.
Mishelle McPherson and her ex-husband searched for the aged mother of a good friend. The lady lived in a small cinderblock house about one hundred fifty yards from the Gulf and thought she can be OK. The house was found smashed, with no sign of the lady.
“Do you assume her body can be right here? Do you assume it will have floated away?” McPherson requested.
As hundreds of National Guard troops, regulation enforcement officers and medical teams fanned out, the governor pleaded with individuals in the devastated areas to stay away for now…
